HISTORY.
Nopal is a member of the Cactaceae family, of the genus opuntia. It often takes the form of a small shrub or creeping plant. It is widely grown in Mexico. It's name derives from the Nahualt "nopalli". Nopal was first cultivated about 5000 years ago.
